The pranksters are out

I'm going to sound like a grumpy old man.  Too bad - for now, at least, I am.

It all started yesterday when a car hit the Londis shop in Stock.  The building is unsafe and has been cordoned off.  As a result one lane is closed and the other is restricted.  Buses cannot get through, there is a simple diversion round the incident by going the other side of the cricket ground.

This morning, during rush hour, some traffic maintenance people decided to close the B1007 from Queens Park in Billericay to its junction with the A12 on the other side of Stock for goods vehicles and bigger.  Our bus driver was confused, and a little annoyed.  He knew the diversion because he had already been through it.  We had passed another bus and he had made arrangements to show that driver the revised route.  After a number of phone calls they started letting buses through again. No one told our driver - so he was a little angry (understatement!).  We got to Chelmsford 25 minutes late.

Tonight on the way home additional diversion signs were being added to the junction of Sun Street and Chapel street, for the benefit of those travelling away from Stock. To take them where? - I can only guess.

When I took the dog for his walk I went to see how the diversion signs were progressing.
At the top of Southend road it said straight on - that's a 'No Entry' road.  At the roundabout at the top of Sun Street it said turn right - that takes you through a gate into Mill Meadow!

I know Essex's traffic management is poor but this is really not good enough.

Moan over -- until tomorrow ...
