Top 10 @ Christ Church #8 Stealing

Ii was my turn to set up and lead the evening.  Its my only go, so I have to make the best of it.  With that in mind Jo and I arrived in plenty of time to photocopy the 'reminders' and set up the technology.  All went well, I'm pleased to say.  So as people started arriving I was ready and could be there to greet them at the door.  By the time we were due to start the weather had changed.  Heavy rain that lasted for the whole evening had started.  Happily it didn't seem to dampen people's spirits - about 80 people still came out. 
J.John challenged us all on exactly what stealing is.  "What do you have in your possession that is someone else's?"  "When have you taken time from your employer that you shouldn't have?"  "When have you failed to give what you promised to give?" These are just a few of the difficult questions that were asked.  We were then encouraged to make restitution, and where that's not possible to rid ourselves of anything stolen.

Food for thought. 

What do I have that I shouldn't - I bet there are some things, and as they come to mind I have to decide how I'm going to put things right ....

Top 10 @ Christ Church #9 Lying

I arrived at church to find that the chairs were not put out.  One of the disadvantages of our wonderful worship space is the constant removal and replacement of chairs.  Jo and I started putting them back where they 'belonged'.  As we finished the caterers arrived and set up coffee.  It was time for a de-caff and another explanation about why I don't drink real coffee any more.  I have already reached my lifetime intake of caffeine. Still, that's really another story. 
People arrived more slowly (O me of little faith) I wasn't expecting so many this week.  How wrong can you be.  While Warner was finishing his introduction I did a quick count - 91.  That's as many as we get for some services!
Do not Lie.  The truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  There are many ways of saying it, and J.John came up with a few I hadn't heard before.

Top 10 @ Christ Church #10 Covetousness

J.John is a very entertaining speaker.  It would have been good to have him 'in the flesh', but the best we could manage was video.  It was better than good enough.  A very relaxed, informative and somewhat challenging evening for me.  I'd love to know what others thought of it - so if you're reading this, please comment.

There were 85 people in church on Wednesday night.  Many of them I had not seen for a long time, some I hardly seen at all.  We were greeted with refreshments and then sat in relative comfort to watch the first video.  Afterwards people were allowed to chat, have more refreshments and talk to the vicar if there was anything pressing or if they were in need of prayer.

There were 6 principles mentioned in the video, which we struggled to remember afterwards, but Warner promised to get them from the video and write them down.  That's good, but what is more important is the things that God spoke to people about as they listened to J. John.  Some will know exactly what God said. I hope they take it seriously and act upon it.  Others won't be so sure, for them I pray that they will understand (and get help in trying if they need it) and act on what was said.  Some will just have enjoyed the jokes and not really taken it seriously.  That was me once, and the preacher was Eric Delve.  It was part of my journey to faith.  I pray also that others have taken a step in the right direction in their journey, and that it may end in the same place as mine will.
