Today was the assessment.
We arrived early at the fracture clinic, and had a very long wait - nearly one hour altogether. Before it was my time to be seen the wait time was shown as 30 minutes, and the actual visit to the clinic was about 35 minutes after the appointment time. The doctor asked about the pain. I told him there has been very little, and I have not had to resort to pain killers. That is good news for me and for him also. He showed me the X-rays taken immediately post the operation. There are six screws in a plate that joins the ball back to the arm.
Another X-ray was required in order to determine the progress of the healing, and to make sure that the 'clever' screws, that screw into the plate one way,and the bone the other, have not moved. The card was prepared, and I walked round to the X-ray department, handed it in and waited. Waiting - I hate it! Eventually I was called, and stood against the plate, while the operator focused the machine, one from the front view and one from the back view.
Back in the fracture clinic I was shown the new X-rays. The plate looks just the same, but there is a gap between the ball and the socket. That will apparently go once the muscles start to grow back, and strengthen. So now it is off to Physiotherapy, my previous experiences of physiotherapy have not been good - we will see what happens. I was given some basic exercises, and told not to push doors, or carry anything heavy just yet. There really isn't much chance of that, while it hardly moves under its own power.
Aside from the physio, I can go back to work, which is great news.
