Lincoln - City Break - Go West (to Hagley)

01 June 2024

Summer is officially here, but this is England, so there is no really noticeable difference in the weather.  Today we are packed up and headed to the Stourbridge / Kidderminster area to spend the night at Shenstone Lodge.  It sounds grand, but it isn't.  Cabin would be a better word than lodge.  Booked through Booking.com, I found this B&B (without Breakfast and without drinking water) for the same price as a regular hotel.  To say I feel ripped-off is an understatement.  Why is it even listed in a search for B&B?

The walls between the cabins are so thin we can hear the normal conversation next door until a little after 11pm, it starts again around 6am.

We arrive at St. Johns, Hagley in time to get into the church and settled before the service starts.  The baptism goes well, and the reception in Hagley Hall afterwards is lovely.

The drive home is uneventful, except for our stop at another 'services'.  This place too is heaving, but we get a parking spot and order drinks and ice cream at McDonald's. There is now another place on my list of 'possibly the worse road-side services in England'. We also have some leftovers from the reception for our tea.

The remainder of the journey is OK, until we get on the M25, which is predictably slow.

We arrive home mid-evening.
