Possibly the worst vacuum cleaner ever - VAX Pick-up Pet

It's a long time since we purchased a new vacuum cleaner.  This was chosen because, at the time, we had lots of dog hair.  It was a bad choice.

Here are my reasons:

It does not pick up much.  Our previous cleaner would pick up those tiny stones that come in on your shoes - this one does not.  Our previous vacuum would pick up small screws, this one does not.  Our previous one would pick up clumps of hair from the carpet, this one does not.

It quickly looses suction.  After 5–10 minutes, the suction will drop off to almost nothing.  The vacuum is not anywhere near full, and emptying it doesn't help.  The suction has dropped off because the vortex is blocked, or the filters are blocked.  To do this, the dust collection box must be opened.  It is easily removed from the body of the vacuum.  Be warned, the following process is messy.

First, remove the top.  This is difficult because the top fits tightly to the body.  A slight turn is enough, but considerable effort is required, much more when hot. It is tricky to reassemble, sometimes near impossible, as the top and base seem to have different circumferences when warmed up.  It once took me 20 minutes to get this to fit correctly.
Second, lift off the final filter.  This is a good filter and will sometimes need washing, but it clogs really quickly.  I have used the shaft of a screwdriver to gently brush off the layers of dust.
Third, remove the cap off the vortex. It's a simple turn and click, and it will lift off easily. Below here will likely be full of dust and human hair.  Sometimes it can be emptied, other time the hair is wound tightly and must be removed by hand.
