There has recently been a court case in which a dying woman has asked for 'clarification' of the law on assisted suicide. The idea being that it is OK to take someone to Switzerland so that others may help them put an end to their lives.
The Law Lords, in what is probably their last judgement, agreed that parliament should provide clarification. This is a back door attempt to prevent the potential prosecution for such crimes, even though there have been none. There have been investigations, but no charges have been bought. Legalising this position is the first stage to permitting assisted suicide in this country.
In my view this is wrong.
I have heard all the arguments, for and against. People are not like pets that they should be put down when they are incurably ill, nor should someone have to bear the responsibility for the killing. Where would you stop? At incapacity, at diagnosis?
There is a petition here requesting that there is no change to the current law, please sign if you think in a similar way to me. (British Citizens only)
