Welcome to 2009

In now traditional style we welcomed the new year with a meal and party in church. This year was the biggest in the 5 year history of the event with an estimated 95 people present. Following the buffet style meal there are a few songs from "Rough Diamonds", the band that gets together each year for this event. Then there are some competitions and a disco.
The redness in the photo is caused by our heaters. They make taking good pictures really difficult.
This year Jo and I were asked to make the awards for the 'best dressed'. The theme for the night was "Hollywood Glamour". The judging had to be done in secret as the awards were a surpise on the night. A strange experience, walking around looking at people and judging their dress. Talking about them and pointing out various things about them. It was particularly difficlut judging the men, as there are less choices for the men. Still we found some outstanding candidates, and I hope the winners appreciated the 'bit of fun'. The other competitions turned out to be a little too easy, with six or so people getting 100%. A little chocolate sharing had to be practiced.
An enjoyable night, probably the best yet.
