One death confirmed in substation blast

I arrived home to hear that there had been an explosion in Chelmsford, the county town of Essex. The explosion happened in an electricity sub-station in Bishop Hall Lane. My daughter works in the centre of town in County Hall. I immediately rang her - she's fine - she's been watching smoke for most of the day. My God-daughter goes to school there, she was shut in the school for a while for fear that the fumes would affect her. She's been allowed out and is home now.
The local paper report is here.

Chelmsford is about 10 miles north of Billericay, and is a common destination for work, shopping and entertainment.
