7/7 (July 7th) - One year on ...

On Friday, at mid-day, some of us stopped work and stood outside the building for the two minutes silence to remember those who died and their families, and those who are still recovering. I many ways it was disappointing - there were few people outside, some were talking. The traffic didn't stop, so we couldn't hear St. Pauls - the bells were supposed to be rung. We returned to work feeling a little deflated. That of course is London! "We've been there before" is the most common expression I hear now. The sentiment seems to be that 'bad things happen - even to good people' and we just have to live with. London will go on from strength to strength whatever, even when it happens again.

On reflection I'm not so deflated that people are refusing to be intimidated, if that's what's happening, but also we must not forget those very tiny minority of commuters for whom this has been a life changing experience. May God be very real to them in their sufferings, and may they make some sense of it all eventually.
