Both are labour saving devices, and good in their own right. Both can cause frustration. It's time for the car to have its annual service and MoT (a certificate that it been checked and operates within certain parameters). Today, for the first time ever (and we've had the car from new for ten years) the battery was flat. The washing machine is making too much noise because the bearings have failed. The repair man came and said "The bearings have failed". They now need to decide on replacement or repair. We wait - and visit the launderette.
Such is life. We come to rely on all of these things, and get frustrated and upset when they don't work. We shouldn't. We should understand that everything in the world is subject to failure, which we accept intellectually, but not emotionally.
